A still, cloudless night on the water, with flat calm through the day and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Palette Lake around shallow cover and weed edges. The strongest window runs from the day. Keep expectations modest and fish carefully. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Sudbury, Ontario, is where Palette Lake sits. Elevation runs to 454 metres. At about 43 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Bank access stretches around 2.7 km in total. Compared with other Ontario water on our list, it sits high. Start from Chapleau, 27 km down the road. Greater Sudbury is the closest city, 213 km away. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Sudbury records list smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and Iowa darter among the fish reported. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Read Palette Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -15°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The open-water window runs from around late April to about mid November in an average year. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. It holds true on Palette Lake more years than not.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. For a change of water, Toe Lake is 2.9 km distant. For Palette Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
