A mixed sky through the night, with a useful WNW wind pushing food about with the barometer flat. The productive water at Messada Lake will be around the calm side of the wind. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Messada Lake is a Rainy River District water, in Ontario. The setting is mixed forest on every side. At about 98 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. At about 13 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. 21 km away sits Atikokan, the nearest town. Thunder Bay sits 171 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Survey and observation records for Rainy River District include northern pike, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. At Messada Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Expect July to average close to 18°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Open water usually runs from late April until about mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Messada Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Public data does not answer the access question here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Bog Lake, 3.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Ask locally about Messada Lake if anything is unclear.
