Flat light and a covered sky today, with the water lying quiet and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Marionette Lake should come off structure within a cast of the bank. The strongest window runs from afternoon into evening. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Marionette Lake is set in Sudbury, Ontario. The water sits 461 metres up. This is sizeable water at about 3.81 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Some 21 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. Size puts it in the front rank of our Sudbury list. For supplies, Chapleau is 89 km out. For a city, Greater Sudbury is 151 km off. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Sudbury, recorded fish include smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Marionette Lake that means starting tight and working out.
The year swings from about -15°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near mid November in autumn. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. The season on Marionette Lake rarely departs from it.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. The nearest alternative is Abinette Lake, 4.7 km out.
