Fresh rain topping the water up today, with a decent NW wind working the banks and pressure going nowhere. Expect most activity at Maeck Lake around the weed line and any gaps in it. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Maeck Lake is one of the Parry Sound District waters in Ontario. The water sits 318 metres up. The water covers some 27 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The edge runs 4.1 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Start from South River, 23 km down the road. The big place round here is Greater Sudbury, 125 km distant. No border sits close enough to matter.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Parry Sound District records list smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch among the fish reported. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Take Maeck Lake a stretch at a time.
Expect July to average close to 18°C, with January the cold end at about -11°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly early December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Anyone fishing Maeck Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Failing this one, try Spring Lake, 1.5 km away. Treat access at Maeck Lake as something to verify.
