Open sky and sharp air tonight, with flat calm through the day with a settled glass. On Low Lake, work the calm side of the wind first. The day fishes best from morning through afternoon. Pick two or three spots and rotate them. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Algoma, Ontario, is where Low Lake sits. It lies 440 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 25 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The whole outline is near 3.7 km, and most of it is walkable. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Ontario listings. Some 62 km away sits Chapleau, the nearest settlement. For a city, Greater Sudbury is 268 km off. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Open biodiversity records for Algoma list walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. The shape of Low Lake decides where the fish sit.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -15°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Low Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Should this one be busy, Shanty Lake is 1.3 km off. For Low Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
