A crisp, open sky after dark, with just enough WNW wind to ripple the surface with a settled glass. Whatever swims in Brant Lake should be near the shallows early and the drop later. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones.

Ontario holds Brant Lake, in Algoma. It sits in pine and birch. Around 29 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. Shoreline comes to about 3.5 km, small enough to learn in a day. It sits higher than most water we list in Ontario. For a base, Wawa sits 59 km out. After that come Chapleau at 60 km and Sault Ste. Marie at 127 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Algoma cover walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Brant Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -15°C in January. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. The season on Brant Lake rarely departs from it.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. The nearest alternative is Wildcherry Lake, 0.9 km out. Treat Brant Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
