Sun coming and going behind the cloud today, with a kind WNW breeze on the water and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Gillmor Lake should be near reed fringes and open pockets. The day holds up well from afternoon into evening. Let the water tell you when to move. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

The Algoma end of Ontario holds Gillmor Lake. This is rolling bush ground. It measures about 15 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The whole outline is near 3.9 km, and most of it is walkable. On size it sits at the modest end of our Algoma list. The town to know is Sault Ste. Marie, 42 km out. Greater Sudbury sits 217 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Species logged across Algoma include walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Gillmor Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
The range across the year is -12°C to 17°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near late November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. On Gillmor Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. The nearest alternative is Solar Lake, 5.9 km out. Nothing on Gillmor Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
