Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a persistent wind from the SW with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Gaitche Lake should come off any hard bottom among the soft. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient.

Gaitche Lake lies within the bounds of Parry Sound District, Ontario. The setting is lake country bush. This is a pocket water of some 9 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Bank access stretches around 1.8 km in total. Our Parry Sound District list holds plenty of bigger water. South River is the closest place, 30 km off. After that come Powassan at 43 km and Huntsville at 46 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. At Gaitche Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Long-term averages put July at about 18°C and January near -12°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Ice is part of the season here, ending near late April. From about late April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Anyone fishing Gaitche Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Public data does not answer the access question here. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Algonquin Provincial Park covers this ground, which means extra rules to check. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. A phone call first saves an afternoon. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Betty Lake at 1.3 km is the sensible second choice. Where Gaitche Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
