Dull, settled light over the water, with a light W breeze and pressure sitting still. On Connell Lake, work the margins and the shelf beyond them first. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Ontario holds Connell Lake, in Algoma. Height above sea level is 358 metres. With some 19 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The bank runs about 2.4 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. For supplies, Wawa is 42 km out. Chapleau is 111 km and Sault Ste. Marie 128 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Algoma records list walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch among the fish reported. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Read Connell Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Climate records put July near 16°C and January near -13°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. The water is typically free of ice between late April and late November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Expect Connell Lake to follow that timing.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Dead Moose Lake sits 1.1 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Connell Lake in what we hold.
