An even grey lid over the water, with a steady WSW wind and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Conger Lake is reed fringes and open pockets. The evening is where the day comes good. Change depth before you change anything else. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

In Ontario, Conger Lake falls inside Parry Sound District. Everything around it is mixed forest. This is sizeable water at about 1.23 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. The outline measures near 13 km, so local knowledge counts. On our Parry Sound District list it sits near the top for size. Some 21 km away sits Parry Sound, the nearest settlement. After that come Penetanguishene at 43 km and Midland at 47 km. The county edge is within a short distance of the bank.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Reported across Parry Sound District: smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed and yellow perch. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. The near bank of Conger Lake is often the one people ignore.
The year swings from about -9°C in January to roughly 19°C in July. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Winter locks it down, and mid April brings it back. On average, mid April opens the water and early December closes it again. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Plan around that when you fish Conger Lake.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Boat access is recorded roughly 1.1 km away. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. If the gate is shut, La Force Lake at 1.5 km is the nearest alternative. Confirm before you fish Conger Lake.
