A still, cloudless night on the water, with a light SSW breeze with the barometer flat. Give windblown banks where food collects the first hour at Dunbar Lake. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Night
Dunbar Lake is a District Municipality of Muskoka water, Ontario side. The water sits 199 metres up. This is a pocket water of some 8 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Our District Municipality of Muskoka list holds plenty of bigger water. You are 25 km from Parry Sound. After that come Penetanguishene at 40 km and Midland at 44 km. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Public occurrence data for District Municipality of Muskoka names pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. At Dunbar Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Climate records put July near 19°C and January near -9°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Once it clears, about mid April, the fishing comes on quickly. On the long-run averages the water opens up around mid April and starts locking again about early December. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. The season on Dunbar Lake rarely departs from it.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Failing this one, try Juniper Lake, 0.7 km away. Rules at Dunbar Lake are worth checking on the day.
