A clean, cloudless night over the water, with a working WNW breeze and no real change in pressure. Activity on Cedar Lake should centre on structure within a cast of the bank. The productive run goes the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Cedar Lake is one of the Algoma waters in Ontario. It stands 459 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 32 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The edge runs 3.1 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. It sits higher than most water we list in Ontario. Nearest place of any size is Elliot Lake, 44 km away. After that come Blind River at 61 km and Thessalon at 75 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Algoma records list walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch among the fish reported. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Cedar Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Seasonal averages run from -13°C in January up to 18°C in July. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. It holds true on Cedar Lake more years than not.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. For a change of water, Little Cedar Lake is 1.1 km distant. For Cedar Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
