Bright, clear skies over the water today, with the surface near flat and no real change in pressure. Expect most activity at Brownlee Lake around any hard bottom among the soft. The best of it runs afternoon into evening. Small adjustments will matter more than big moves. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

The Algoma entry here is Brownlee Lake, in Ontario. The setting is lake country bush. Roughly 78 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The whole outline is near 4.7 km, and most of it is walkable. It lies lower than most water we list in Ontario. For supplies, Thessalon is 12 km out. Blind River follows at 38 km, then Elliot Lake at 62 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Our records hold no depth for this water. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Algoma include walleye, northern pike and Iowa darter. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. At Brownlee Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
The seasonal spread runs -11°C to 18°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Winter locks it down, and mid April brings it back. Averages suggest open water from about mid April through to roughly early December. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Expect Brownlee Lake to follow that timing.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Overnight stays are possible 630 m away. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Should this one be busy, Little Basswood Lake is 1.3 km off. Rules at Brownlee Lake are worth checking on the day.
