Stars out and no cloud tonight, with almost no wind to speak of and steady pressure. Expect most activity at Bonar Lake around reed fringes and open pockets. A grinding day likely, with the morning worth the effort if any is. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Bonar Lake is one of the Algoma waters in Ontario. Elevation runs to 336 metres. This is sizeable water at about 5.19 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. At about 28 km of edge, most people fish a single area and learn it well. On our Algoma list it sits near the top for size. For supplies, Chapleau is 61 km out. Kapuskasing is 128 km away, with Timmins at 130 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Algoma include walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Bonar Lake that means starting tight and working out.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -17°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Bonar Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Little Bear Lake at 5.8 km is the sensible second choice. For Bonar Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
