Passing showers with dry spells between, with air barely moving and no real change in pressure. Bittern Lake should fish best around reed fringes and open pockets today. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Bittern Lake is an Algoma water, in Ontario. Around the bank it is boreal forest. At about 99 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. With 8.9 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Size puts it in the front rank of our Algoma list. Chapleau lies 70 km from the water. It is 277 km to Greater Sudbury, the nearest city. This one is safely inside the county line.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Algoma cover walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter, yellow perch and white sucker. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Read Bittern Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
The seasonal spread runs -17°C to 17°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Plan around that when you fish Bittern Lake.
Access is not recorded for this water. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Dunrankin Lake, 2.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Bittern Lake in what we hold.
