Showers crossing the water today, with the surface near flat and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Dunrankin Lake should come off reed fringes and open pockets. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Dunrankin Lake is an Algoma water, Ontario side. Elevation runs to 338 metres. Surface area runs to roughly 1.30 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. With 7.2 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. On our Algoma list it sits near the top for size. For a base, Chapleau sits 72 km out. The nearest city of size is Greater Sudbury, 277 km away. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Public occurrence data for Algoma names walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. The county list is broader than any single water. Treat Dunrankin Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -17°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Anyone fishing Dunrankin Lake regularly works to that calendar.
We hold no note on access for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. A camping area sits within 1.2 km of here. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Bittern Lake, 2.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Dunrankin Lake carry more weight than any list.
