No direct sun expected today, with a light SSE breeze with the barometer flat. The fish at Bog Lake are likely to sit near the weed line and any gaps in it. Expect the better fishing from night into morning. Give the likely spots time before moving. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

The Kenora District end of Ontario holds Bog Lake. It lies 343 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 39 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. About 3.7 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. The closest town, Kenora, is 30 km distant. After that come Vermilion Bay at 54 km and Dryden at 100 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Open data we checked carries no depth for this water. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. The county list is broader than any single water. Bog Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
Averages move between -17°C in January and 19°C in July. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Anyone fishing Bog Lake regularly works to that calendar.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The water borders The Jones Road Wilderness Area, so expect the reserve rules to apply. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Howard Lake, 1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Bog Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
