Clear overhead with good moonlight, with steady pressure of wind from the NW and steady pressure. The water to cover at Turtle Lake is inflow corners and shaded margins. A long productive spell runs the day. A careful, quiet approach will out-fish a busy one. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Turtle Lake is one of the Kenora District listings for Ontario. Rolling bush runs right down to the water. It covers about 8 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is a small entry by Kenora District standards. Kenora sits 33 km from the bank. Then Vermilion Bay, 53 km, and Dryden, 99 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for Kenora District list northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Treat Turtle Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
Climate records put July near 18°C and January near -18°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Ice is part of the season here, ending near late April. On average, late April opens the water and mid November closes it again. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Plan around that when you fish Turtle Lake.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. The Jones Road Wilderness Area runs up to the bank here, which usually means extra restrictions. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. John Lake at 1.2 km is the sensible second choice. Ask locally about Turtle Lake if anything is unclear.
