A clear night sky over the water, with a busy NW wind on the open water and no real change in pressure. Give the first drop-off and weed lines the first hour at Corner Lake. A day for grinding out a result rather than chasing a peak. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Corner Lake falls in Kenora District, part of Ontario. The bank is 340 metres above sea level. It measures about 38 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. With about 3.4 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Kenora lies 28 km from the water. Then Vermilion Bay, 53 km, and Dryden, 99 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Kenora District records list northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch among the fish reported. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Read Corner Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
The seasonal spread runs -17°C to 19°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around late April. On average, late April opens the water and mid November closes it again. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Time your trip to Corner Lake by conditions rather than dates.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Failing this one, try Stiffo Lake, 2.7 km away. The position on Corner Lake is worth confirming on the day.
