Stars out and no cloud tonight, with a whisper of wind from the SSE and steady pressure. Start the search at Blowout Lake along any hard bottom among the soft. A long productive spell runs afternoon into evening. Make the first hour count and build on it. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Blowout Lake belongs to Rainy River District, Ontario. It stands 451 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 12 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The bank runs about 1.9 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Rainy River District. For a base, Atikokan sits 35 km out. Ignace is 47 km away, with Sioux Lookout at 123 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name northern pike, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. At Blowout Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Expect July to average close to 18°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Average temperatures cross freezing around late April in spring and again near mid November in autumn. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. The season on Blowout Lake follows the weather closely.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Red Paint Lake sits 1.2 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Blowout Lake in what we hold.
