Open sky and sharp air tonight, with air barely moving with a settled glass. Give the seam between weed and open water the first hour at Timlin Lake. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Timlin Lake is one of the Rainy River District waters in Ontario. The surface lies 444 metres up. At about 24 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The full circuit measures close to 3.1 km on foot. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Rainy River District. Atikokan is the closest place, 38 km off. For a city, Thunder Bay is 173 km off. This one is safely inside the county line.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Records held for Rainy River District cover northern pike, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Timlin Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
The warm month here averages 18°C; the cold one sits at -18°C. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Expect Timlin Lake to follow that timing.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. The nearest alternative is Dark Lake, 2 km out. Confirm access to Timlin Lake locally before you travel.
