No direct sun expected today, with a faint W drift with the glass holding level. Start the search at Big Boot Lake along shallow cover and weed edges. Little to get excited about, though the evening holds a sliver of promise. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Morning
Big Boot Lake is a Timiskaming District water, Ontario side. It stands 301 metres above sea level. Roughly 27 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. A shoreline of some 3.2 km keeps the choices simple. Temiskaming Shores is the closest place, 34 km off. Then Haileybury, 38 km, and Englehart, 50 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Timiskaming District: brook trout, northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter and walleye. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. At Big Boot Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Averages here run 18°C at the top of summer and -16°C at the bottom of winter. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at late November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Time your trip to Big Boot Lake by conditions rather than dates.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Slade Lake, 2.3 km away. Rules at Big Boot Lake are worth checking on the day.
