A clean, cloudless night over the water, with just enough WNW wind to ripple the surface and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Beauport Lake along the calm side of the wind. A broad window opens from the day. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

You will find Beauport Lake in Kenora District, Ontario. The ground around here is lake country bush. At about 31 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The full circuit measures close to 2.6 km on foot. It is a small entry by Kenora District standards. Kenora at 40 km is the nearest place to stop. Then Moose Lake, 70 km, and Lac du Bonnet, 87 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Kenora District cover northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Beauport Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Averages move between -19°C in January and 19°C in July. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Plan around that when you fish Beauport Lake.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Simpson Lake, 3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. The position on Beauport Lake is worth confirming on the day.
