A broken sky giving spells of shade, with steady pressure of wind from the WNW and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Longpine Lake along reed fringes and open pockets. Fair numbers all day without a real peak. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

You will find Longpine Lake in Kenora District, Ontario. It stands 347 metres above sea level. At 1.83 sq km this is proper open water rather than a pond. Shoreline length is close to 22 km, and each section fishes a little differently. For supplies, Kenora is 45 km out. Beyond it, Moose Lake at 66 km and Lac du Bonnet at 85 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Species logged across Kenora District include northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. On Longpine Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The seasonal spread runs -19°C to 19°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about mid November in an average year. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. On Longpine Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is a slipway on the shore, 1.1 km from the water we list. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Piute Lake, 1.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Longpine Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
