Sun coming and going behind the cloud today, with just enough W wind to ripple the surface and steady pressure. Give the seam between weed and open water the first hour at Bearpaw Lake. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet.

Look for Bearpaw Lake in the Algoma part of Ontario. Beyond the shoreline you have taiga. With some 14 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The bank runs about 2.3 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. It is a small entry by Algoma standards. For supplies, Wawa is 44 km out. The nearest city of size is Greater Sudbury, 327 km away. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth figures are not published for this one. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Species logged across Algoma include walleye, northern pike, Iowa darter and yellow perch. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. At Bearpaw Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
The warm month here averages 16°C; the cold one sits at -16°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. At Bearpaw Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Pine Lake is 1.7 km off. Treat access at Bearpaw Lake as something to verify.
