Patchy cloud drifting through today, with a steady WNW wind and pressure going nowhere. Activity on Bark Lake should centre on structure within a cast of the bank. Fair numbers all day without a real peak. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Bark Lake is one of the Kenora District waters in Ontario. It stands 405 metres above sea level. Around 89 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The shoreline runs about 5.7 km, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. Sioux Lookout at 31 km is the nearest place to stop. It is 259 km to Thunder Bay, the nearest city. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Fish documented in Kenora District include northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker and johnny darter. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Take Bark Lake a stretch at a time.
Typical July readings run about 18°C; by January the average is down near -18°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about mid November in an average year. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Time your trip to Bark Lake by conditions rather than dates.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Keike Lake, 4.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Bark Lake for certain.
