Drifting cloud with clear gaps tonight, with a stiffish breeze from the WNW and the barometer holding steady. Give reed fringes and open pockets the first hour at Banana Lake. The graph is flat today, and flat is fishable. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Banana Lake is a Kenora District water, in Ontario. What surrounds it is rolling bush. This is a pocket water of some 10 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Our Kenora District list holds plenty of bigger water. The closest town, Dryden, is 15 km away. Vermilion Bay is 45 km and Sioux Lookout 58 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Open biodiversity records for Kenora District list northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. The near bank of Banana Lake is often the one people ignore.
On the long-term average, July reads 18°C and January reads -18°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. The season on Banana Lake rarely departs from it.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. If the gate is shut, Little Anaway Lake at 4 km is the nearest alternative. Treat access at Banana Lake as something to verify.
