Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a busy WNW wind on the open water with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Dope Lake around inflow corners and shaded margins. The day runs flat but workable from start to finish. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Dope Lake is a Kenora District water, Ontario side. Elevation runs to 395 metres. Surface area is around 21 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. With about 1.9 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. On size it sits at the modest end of our Kenora District list. 25 km away sits Dryden, the nearest town. Vermilion Bay is 50 km and Sioux Lookout 53 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Kenora District cover northern pike, longnose sucker, white sucker, johnny darter and logperch. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. On Dope Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in July and bottoms out near -18°C in January. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. It sets the rhythm of the year at Dope Lake.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. For a change of water, Sundial Lake is 1.4 km distant. Check the position at Dope Lake before loading the car.
