Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a faint W drift with a settled glass. Expect most activity at Holm Lake around the calm side of the wind. A long productive spell runs the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Holm Lake is one of the Riding Mountain West waters in Manitoba. The country round it is rolling bush from end to end. It measures about 13 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The whole outline is near 1.7 km, and most of it is walkable. You are 12 km from Roblin. Beyond it, Kamsack at 58 km and Langenburg at 59 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Riding Mountain West include white sucker, rock bass, blackside darter and johnny darter. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Read Holm Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in July and bottom out at -20°C in January. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. On Holm Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. For a change of water, Shepton Lake is 1.2 km distant. Signs at Holm Lake carry more weight than any list.
