A still, cloudless night on the water, with calm air over the water with the glass holding level. The water to cover at Teepee Lake is the first drop-off and weed lines. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Teepee Lake is set in Cariboo Regional District, British Columbia. It sits in rolling bush country. It runs to roughly 30 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The bank runs about 3.9 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Head to Quesnel, 89 km away, for anything you forgot. For a city, Kamloops is 367 km off. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Survey and observation records for Cariboo Regional District include sockeye salmon, Chinook salmon, bull trout and Coho salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Teepee Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The range across the year is -11°C to 14°C. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around mid April. Open water usually runs from mid April until about mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. On Teepee Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. For a change of water, Yimpakluk Lake is 10 km distant. Treat Teepee Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
