Dull, settled light over the water, with next to no ripple and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Tasa Lake should come off the weed line and any gaps in it. The forecast is against you; the middle of the day is the least bad option. Short, focused sessions beat a long grind today.

You will find Tasa Lake in Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, British Columbia. It sits at 1,160 metres above sea level. This is sizeable water at about 1.46 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. At about 5.3 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. The nearest town is Vanderhoof, 38 km away. Further out sit Prince George (77 km) and Fort St. James (89 km). It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Species logged across Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako include sockeye salmon, Coho salmon and Chinook salmon. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. On Tasa Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
In an average year July sits at 12°C and January at -11°C. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. At Tasa Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. McKay Lake sits 16 km off and takes the overflow. Check the current arrangement for Tasa Lake.
