Hard light and clear air over the water, with the water lying quiet with the barometer flat. On Shambrook Lake, work the seam between weed and open water first. The productive run goes night into morning. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Shambrook Lake lies within the bounds of Thompson-Nicola Regional District, British Columbia. It sits at 1,307 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 14 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. With about 2.3 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Aberdeen lies 21 km from the water. Logan Lake follows at 22 km, then Dufferin at 22 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Thompson-Nicola Regional District records list Chinook salmon, sockeye salmon, Coho salmon and rainbow trout among the fish reported. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The shape of Shambrook Lake decides where the fish sit.
Climate normals give 14°C for August and -7°C for December. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. On average, late April opens the water and mid November closes it again. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Plan around that when you fish Shambrook Lake.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. A pier 740 m from here gives a platform over deeper water. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Walloper Lake at 2 km is the sensible second choice. Signs at Shambrook Lake carry more weight than any list.
