Blue sky from bank to bank today, with the surface near flat and pressure going nowhere. On Roper Lake, work the weed line and any gaps in it first. The useful hours run the day. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Roper Lake sits in Thompson-Nicola Regional District, out in British Columbia. The setting is rolling bush on every side. With some 10 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The bank runs about 1.9 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. It sits higher than most water we list in British Columbia. The closest town, Logan Lake, is 15 km distant. Dufferin is 22 km and Aberdeen 22 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Thompson-Nicola Regional District cover Chinook salmon, sockeye salmon, Coho salmon and rainbow trout. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Roper Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Seasonal averages run from -8°C in December up to 13°C in August. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. The season on Roper Lake follows the weather closely.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Dominic Lake, 1.6 km out. Nothing on Roper Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
