No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with hardly a ripple anywhere with a settled glass. The productive water at Placid Lake will be around reed fringes and open pockets. Block out the hours from night into morning. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Placid Lake lies in Metro Vancouver Regional District, in British Columbia. Tidal water begins 23 km from here. The water measures roughly 2 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. Head to Yennadon, 10 km away, for anything you forgot. Maple Ridge follows at 12 km, then Haney at 12 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Metro Vancouver Regional District include white sturgeon, Coho salmon, sockeye salmon and rainbow trout. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Placid Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Expect August to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about 1°C. The freeze here is occasional rather than annual. In a normal year the cover is thin and short-lived. June to September is hot work, so the first and last hours are what count. Placid Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Gwendoline Lake, 0.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position at Placid Lake before loading the car.
