A closed sky with even light today, with mild air moving in from the SSE with the barometer flat. Give points where shallow meets deep the first hour at Pinetree Lake. Not a day the forecast likes; the evening keeps a flicker of interest. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

The Stikine Region end of British Columbia holds Pinetree Lake. Height above sea level is 738 metres. The water covers around 1.43 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. You are looking at roughly 12 km of shoreline, with plenty of water between access points. Watson Lake sits 132 km from the bank. After that come Juneau at 279 km and Petersburg at 308 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Stikine Region cover Chinook salmon, sockeye salmon and Coho salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Pinetree Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
July runs about 12°C on average, January about -15°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near mid May. From about mid May to around late October, expect open water on the long-run figures. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Pinetree Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. The nearest car park is 410 m from the water. There is a mapped landing stage 960 m away. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Should this one be busy, Joe Irwin Lake is 7.5 km off. Nothing on Pinetree Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
