No direct sun expected today, with an easy breeze from the SE with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Bend Lake around sheltered bays and points. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. Bundle up; the fishing will be slow but not impossible.

Set in Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine, British Columbia, this is Bend Lake. The bank is 743 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 11 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. A shoreline of some 1.7 km keeps the choices simple. Our Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine list holds plenty of bigger water. The closest town, Watson Lake, is 148 km away. Kamloops is the closest city, 1105 km away. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth figures are not published for this one. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. County-wide records name pink salmon, Chum salmon, Coho salmon, sockeye salmon and Chinook salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. The shape of Bend Lake decides where the fish sit.
In an average year July sits at 12°C and January at -16°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. The lid tends to go about early May and return around early November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. That shapes the year on Bend Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Failing this one, try Portage Lake, 0.3 km away. None of that is settled for Bend Lake in what we hold.
