Overcast skies today, with light air out of the NE and pressure going nowhere. Fish at Park Lake should hold close to the weed line and any gaps in it. The strongest window is the evening. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

You will find Park Lake in Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, British Columbia. The country here is mixed forest. Surface area is around 12 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Bank access stretches around 2.1 km in total. On size it sits at the modest end of our Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako list. The nearest town is Houston, 42 km away. For a city, Kamloops is 571 km off. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. County-wide records name sockeye salmon, Coho salmon, Chinook salmon and pink salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Read Park Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Climate records put July near 14°C and January near -9°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. After mid April the shallows warm and the fish move up. In an average year the thaw lands around mid April and the freeze near mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Park Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. The nearest alternative is Bellelliot Lake, 1.5 km out. Treat Park Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
