Overcast skies today, with a light chop building from the NE and pressure going nowhere. Activity on Kidney Lake should centre on windblown banks where food collects. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. The cold puts a premium on the calmest, deepest water.

Kidney Lake is a Central Coast Regional District water, in British Columbia. The land about it is rolling bush. Roughly 1.72 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. Some 7.7 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. Head to Anahim Lake, 52 km away, for anything you forgot. Vancouver sits 377 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Public occurrence data for Central Coast Regional District names Chum salmon, pink salmon and Coho salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Kidney Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Expect August to average close to 11°C, with January the cold end at about -8°C. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. On average, early May opens the water and early November closes it again. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Anyone fishing Kidney Lake regularly works to that calendar.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Widgeon Lake at 2.5 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Kidney Lake in what we hold.
