An even grey lid over the water, with a faint WNW drift and the barometer holding steady. The fish at Horn Lake are likely to sit near the margins and the shelf beyond them. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Out in Cariboo Regional District, British Columbia, sits Horn Lake. Elevation runs to 934 metres. The water covers around 1.94 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. With 9.5 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Size puts it in the front rank of our Cariboo Regional District list. Anahim Lake at 84 km is the nearest place to stop. For a city, Vancouver is 306 km off. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Reported across Cariboo Regional District: sockeye salmon, Chinook salmon, bull trout, Coho salmon and longnose sucker. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. On Horn Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
On the long-term average, August reads 13°C and December reads -8°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Once it clears, about mid April, the fishing comes on quickly. Averages place the thaw at mid April and the freeze at mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Time your trip to Horn Lake by conditions rather than dates.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Waterlily Lake, 2.1 km away. None of that is settled for Horn Lake in what we hold.
