An even grey lid over the water, with a useful SW wind pushing food about with the glass holding level. Hereron Lake should fish best around the shaded margin through bright spells today. If you must go, go in the morning. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Hereron Lake is a Regional District of Central Okanagan water, British Columbia side. It lies 1,434 metres above sea level. It is high ground by British Columbia standards. Ellison lies 15 km from the water. Kelowna sits 25 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. More in the same country: Rodney Lake (1.1 km), Postill Lake the better part of 2.3 km, Meadow Lake (4 km), Moore Lake the better part of 5.3 km and James Lake (6.3 km). This one is safely inside the county line.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Records held for Regional District of Central Okanagan cover sockeye salmon, rainbow trout and common carp. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Hereron Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Long-run averages give August about 14°C and January about -8°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. At Hereron Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Rodney Lake, 1.1 km away. None of that is settled for Hereron Lake in what we hold.
