Ideal Lake near Lake Country: Fishing Spots, Seasons and Access

• Overview

  Look for Ideal Lake in Regional District of Central Okanagan, British Columbia. It sits in mixed forest. This is sizeable water at about 1.37 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. The perimeter runs near 8.9 km, so plan the walk before you start. The nearest town is Lake Country, 21 km away. Kelowna sits 32 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.

• Where to Fish on Ideal Lake

  No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Regional District of Central Okanagan records list sockeye salmon, rainbow trout, common carp, largescale sucker and goldfish among the fish reported. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Ideal Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.

• Seasonal Patterns

  The year swings from about -8°C in January to roughly 14°C in August. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Ice is part of the season here, ending near late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly mid November.
