Bands of rain crossing through the day, with a kind WSW breeze on the water and pressure sitting still. Fish at Harewood Lake should hold close to windblown banks where food collects. Little to get excited about, though the evening holds a sliver of promise. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Night
Set in Regional District of Nanaimo, British Columbia, this is Harewood Lake. Elevation runs to 127 metres. At 7 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our British Columbia listings. Chase River sits 4.7 km from the bank. Harewood is 5.9 km away, with South End at 6.4 km. Being near a boundary, it pays to know which side you are fishing.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Regional District of Nanaimo records list rainbow trout, Coho salmon, Chum salmon, Chinook salmon and pink salmon among the fish reported. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Harewood Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Expect August to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about 3°C. Winter is a mild inconvenience here, nothing more. The first and last hours carry the summer; the middle is slow. The cooler months are the comfortable ones to fish here. The season on Harewood Lake follows the weather closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Expect 1.4 km away in from where the car goes. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Should this one be busy, Overton Lake is 0.7 km off. None of that is settled for Harewood Lake in what we hold.
