Bright, clear skies over the water today, with hardly a ripple anywhere with the barometer flat. Start the search at Colledge Lake along shallow cover and weed edges. If you pick one session, make it the evening. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Cold hands, careful casts: precision is everything today.

Colledge Lake lies within the bounds of Peace River Regional District, British Columbia. The bank is 1,661 metres above sea level. Around 62 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The full circuit measures close to 3.9 km on foot. By elevation it is in the upper part of our British Columbia listings. For supplies, Fort Nelson is 186 km out. Further out sit Fort St. John (216 km) and Mackenzie (219 km). Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Peace River Regional District include mountain whitefish, longnose sucker and largescale sucker. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Work Colledge Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Averages move between -15°C in January and 9°C in July. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late May. The open-water window runs from around late May to about mid October in an average year. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. That is the shape of the year on Colledge Lake.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Cranswick Lake is 7.3 km off.
