Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a kind WSW breeze on the water and steady pressure. Beattie Lake should fish best around points where shallow meets deep today. Expect the better fishing from night into morning. Give the likely spots time before moving. Bundle up; the fishing will be slow but not impossible.

Beattie Lake lies in Peace River Regional District, British Columbia. The country round it is lake country bush from end to end. It runs to roughly 58 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. With about 4.2 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Start from Fort St. John, 182 km down the road. Fort Nelson is 184 km and Chetwynd 194 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Peace River Regional District include mountain whitefish, longnose sucker and largescale sucker. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Beattie Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 12°C, while January sits near -13°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near early November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. On Beattie Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. The nearest alternative is Marion Lake, 13 km out. Ask locally about Beattie Lake if anything is unclear.
