Stars out and no cloud tonight, with enough SSW wind to stack food downwind and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Boitano Lake should come off the calm side of the wind. Little to get excited about, though the morning holds a sliver of promise. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Set in Cariboo Regional District, Boitano Lake is a British Columbia water. The surface lies 968 metres up. It runs to roughly 73 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The full circuit measures close to 4.7 km on foot. Williams Lake lies 21 km from the water. 108 Mile Ranch is 57 km away, with Hanceville at 63 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. County-wide records name sockeye salmon, Chinook salmon, bull trout, Coho salmon and longnose sucker. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. The near bank of Boitano Lake is often the one people ignore.
Temperature averages peak at 15°C in July and bottom out at -9°C in January. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early April. Averages place the thaw at early April and the freeze at late November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Boitano Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. A jetty or pier is mapped about 220 m from here. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Carmelita Lake sits 2.6 km off and takes the overflow. Signs at Boitano Lake carry more weight than any list.
