Clear conditions and high sun today, with a kind SE breeze on the water and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Norman Lake should centre on points where shallow meets deep. The best of it runs morning through afternoon. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones.

Norman Lake falls in Municipal District of Lesser Slave River No. 124, part of Alberta. It sits in northern bush country. Small at around 10 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. The nearest town is Barrhead, 48 km away. Westlock is 49 km away, with Athabasca at 61 km. Others worth noting: Emslie Lake lies 0.6 km on, Hubert Lake about 0.9 km, King Lake lies 1.2 km on, Ward Lake about 2.2 km and Reid Lake lies 3 km on. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Municipal District of Lesser Slave River No. 124 records list northern pike, cisco, Arctic grayling, walleye and white sucker among the fish reported. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Norman Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
The year swings from about -17°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. Break-up sits around late April on average, with the water closing again about mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. That is the shape of the year on Norman Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Should this one be busy, Emslie Lake is 0.6 km off. Confirm before you fish Norman Lake.
