Lake Sara is a Municipal District of Lesser Slave River No. 124 water, in Alberta. It lies 609 metres above sea level. This is sizeable water at about 1.53 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. The outline measures near 5.9 km, so local knowledge counts. Barrhead sits 57 km from here and is the nearest stop. Westlock lies 58 km off, Athabasca another 61 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth figures are not published for this one. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Survey and observation records for Municipal District of Lesser Slave River No. 124 include northern pike, cisco and Arctic grayling. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Fish Lake Sara where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
July runs about 16°C on average, January about -17°C. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Open water usually runs from late April until about mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. That is the shape of the year on Lake Sara.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Records show it does not hold water year-round. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. For a change of water, Horseshoe Lake is 2.5 km distant.
