Sunshine start to finish today, with a faint SE drift and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Mink Lake is structure within a cast of the bank. The useful hours run afternoon into evening. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Mink Lake sits within Parkland County in Alberta. Around the bank it is lake country bush. The water covers some 77 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. There is roughly 5.4 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. Start from Stony Plain, 15 km down the road. Beyond it, Spruce Grove at 20 km and Secord at 35 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Across Parkland County, recorded fish include northern pike, yellow perch, Iowa darter, rainbow trout and white sucker. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. On Mink Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Long-run averages give July about 16°C and January about -13°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Mink Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is a campsite 810 m from the water. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Star Lake sits 3.2 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Mink Lake before loading the car.
