Glare on the water under a clear sky, with a faint SE drift with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Duggans Lake should be near bays that hold the day's warmth. The day fishes best from morning through afternoon. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Westlock County, Alberta, this is Duggans Lake. It sits at 634 metres above sea level. It measures some 1.20 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. The whole outline is near 4.8 km, and most of it is walkable. For a base, Westlock sits 28 km out. Edmonton sits 74 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. You are close to a county edge here; who manages the access can change within a short drive.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Westlock County, recorded fish include northern pike, yellow perch, white sucker and Dolly Varden. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Read Duggans Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -16°C for January. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around late April. Open water usually runs from late April until about mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Time your trip to Duggans Lake by conditions rather than dates.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Wakomao Lake sits 9.6 km off and takes the overflow. Treat Duggans Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
