A still, cloudless night on the water, with a soft NE wind with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Lake Tutchewop should be near the shallows early and the drop later. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Rising water temperatures are moving fish shallower by the week.

Lake Tutchewop is set in Gannawarra, Victoria. The setting is open low country. About 7.55 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. Around 11 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. Size puts it in the front rank of our Gannawarra list. The town to know is Swan Hill, 26 km out. Bendigo sits 146 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. This one sits near enough to a boundary to be worth checking.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Records collected within a few miles name common carp, goldfish and golden perch. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lake Tutchewop the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Seasonal averages run from 9°C in July up to 24°C in February. Heat, not cold, decides when to be on the water. Levels swing with the wet season, which moves the fishing about. June through August is cool but far from dead. Anyone fishing Lake Tutchewop regularly works to that calendar.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. This sits inside Lake Tutchewop Reserve, so read the reserve notices first. Carp respond to sweetcorn or boilies fished patiently on the bottom near feeding areas. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. If the gate is shut, Lake William at 4.2 km is the nearest alternative. Treat Lake Tutchewop as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
